Founders Day Program and Potluck
Date: 10/21/2018
Time: 10:10:00 AM
Description: The congregation celebrates Founders Day and our 166 years-old history. FCSC Board President Michael Whaley will address What Good Is (our) History? The Founders Day Address is dedicated to Max Gaebler (1926-2018), who was our congregation’s Speaker from 1989 through 1992 and a beloved occasional guest speaker through 2007. Max was a student of history and, in his talks and writings, a discerning observer of contemporary events, manners, and movements, as well as a compassionate commentator on the vicissitudes of the human journey.
Michael will review the improbable story of the Free Congregation of Sauk County, remind us of the campaigns and causes to which our forebears were committed, and reflect on the present threat to our civil society and moral survival posed by a callous disregard for truth and the lessons of history.
Trevor Stephenson and his Flemish harpsichord will provide music for the event.
Community Potluck to follow. Our members are suggested to bring dishes according to last name, for instance A-G: may bring desserts, H-M: main dishes, N-R: salads, and S-Z side dishes. Childcare will be available.
