Free Thought Forum
Date: 09/15/2019
Time: 10:10:00 AM
Description:

For the 3rd Sunday of September, our Free Thought Forum will feature Amanda Chestnut on the topic Childhood Trauma and Cycles of Incarceration.

This presentation will focus on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) and their connection to generational cycles of incarceration. It will present data collected within the Sauk County Jail and discuss these in the context of national research on incarceration rates, ACE effects, as well as possible alternatives to help break incarceration cycles within families.

Bio: Amanda is a licensed foster parent and student at UW-Platteville Baraboo Sauk County. She strives to help children find success in life. Her experiences with foster children, their lack of parental contact and other harmful backgrounds has led her to seek alternatives to current incarceration policies to help break the adverse cycles that tend to run in families.

Free Thought Forums continue the legacy of free and open inquiry established more than 150 years ago by the founders of the Free Congregation. As their Sunday programs did then, today’s Forums express our commitment to free thought in religion, guided by reason, and inspired by the “books of Nature and World History.” Please join us; you are always welcome! Childcare is available, too!
